Nancy Volpe

Bio
Nancy Volpe is a Colorado artist whose style of painting has been changing during this last year. Trained as a calligrapher 25 years ago sheíd been using watercolor as a way of enhancing her lettering. This eventually moved her into landscape painting, experimenting with both pastels and oils. Most recently her work has been evolving in the direction of the abstract. Her landscapes now appear to be more about the relationship between color, form, and texture. She describes the process as ìwonderfully freeing, allowing the paintings to emerge without controlling or planning.î There is a richness of growth in her work as we watch it transform.

Artist Statement
Iíve been visiting Taos for the past 28 years and like most, have fallen under its unique spell.
My most recent painting of Ranchos de Taos embraces the significance and spirit of this Taos landmark. My technique of layering color and texture, give depth and light both physically and emotionally to this treasured Taos icon.
