Tim Nevaquaya is a full-blood Comanche Indian living in southwest Oklahoma. Tim’s art provides you with a visual opportunity to experience the uniqueness of his Native environment and painting style – ethereal and spiritual with inherently traditional imagery. Long ago, when everything was new, the Mountain Spirits were a race of supernaturals who dwelt within the interiors of many mountains. The Mountain Spirits conducted a dance and ceremony in which some of their men were masked and appeared with their bodies painted in various patterns. The Mountain Spirits dance to "bless the fire." Through their dance of “blessing the fire,” the Mountain Spirit Dancers purify any place, object, or person, and drive away disease, evil and bad spirits. |
