Angus MacDonald
Angus MacDonald was born and raised in Marfa, Texas; coming of age during the 50's when the iconic movie "Giant" was being filmed in his home town. Many of the cast and crew were staying at his Grandmother's hotel. The MacDonald's, descendants of the Lords of Glengarry in the Scottish highlands, had already left a considerable mark on American history by the time Angus was born. His childhood was colored by the stories of his adventurous ancestors and art, music and literature were an important part of his upbringing. His journey as an artist began there in his teens.

As fate would have it, after joint careers as a professional Rodeo cowboy and disk jockey, Angus wound up in Hollywood working as a stuntman and Actor for over a decade before returning to Marfa to paint full time.

Primarily a painter in the post-impressionist style, Angus has also made sculpture, casting his bronzes at Shidoni in Santa Fe and Buffalo Bronze works in Sedona, AZ. After moving to Taos with his wife Wanda in 1980 he met the Zen Buddhist monk, Houn Kobun Chino Otagawa and after studying Zen Buddhism with his teacher for several years was ordained as a Zen Buddhist priest in the Soto linage by Kobun.

Angus met and began working with Michael McCormick soon after moving to Taos and their Artist/Dealer relationship has continued off and on to the present time. MacDonald captures the people and landscape of the Southwest borderlands with passion and conviction in every brushstroke.

Times Square Publishing is publishing a book Angus MacDonald, an American Artist written by Lynne C. Robinson and will be available early in 2012. This biographical art book which explores MacDonald's personal and family history also includes over one hundred color plates of a part of the artist's extraordinary body of work.
